Three awards for Terra Futura
Terra Futura has three awards to celebrate this year. Two recognize Serviceberry at 13 Fireside Drive; the third recognizes the neighborhood around it. We’re proud to see both scales of the work honored: a carefully built home, and a community shaped around shared land, gardens, and the people who live here.
Gold Craftsmanship: the work in a home
Serviceberry received Gold Craftsmanship in the 2026 WNC Parade of Homes. The Association says its outside-area judges consider design, craftsmanship, functionality, and overall impression across each home. Gold Craftsmanship recognizes workmanship in the home as a whole. At Serviceberry, that work shows in the custom vanity with a Paperstone countertop and the covered front porches. Forest views bring a sense of privacy within the city.
Green Innovation: thoughtful choices in the home
Serviceberry also received the Parade’s Green Innovation award. Its official entry describes a Green Built-certified home with cork flooring, FSC-certified butcher block, sound-dampening double walls, natural light, and efficient use of space. The Green Innovation category recognizes green building approaches within a home’s design; here, the entry shows a combination of material choices, efficient planning, and connection to the landscape. We’re glad to see green design recognized alongside craftsmanship in a single home.
Best Sustainable Project: the neighborhood
A different award recognizes the place around the homes. Terra Futura Regenerative Neighborhood received Best Sustainable Project in the 2026 WNC STARS Awards. This is a neighborhood-scale honor: Terra Futura’s homes are clustered around shared open space on three acres in West Asheville. Water is part of that landscape. Runoff is directed into rain gardens and the central garden, and the grounds include native plants, pawpaws and persimmons, berry bushes, and herbs. The Parade’s Serviceberry entry also describes the community’s stormwater wetland basin and shared gardens.
These shared spaces are part of everyday life here, and their care is still developing along with the neighborhood. Several households already call Terra Futura home, and more than half the neighborhood is built. Residents are learning how to share daily life and make decisions together; the Land, Grounds & Farm Circle looks after outdoor spaces as resident-led governance grows. There is still work ahead, which makes recognition of the project at this stage especially meaningful.
We’re grateful to everyone who helped bring Terra Futura this far, and proud to celebrate these awards with our neighbors. There’s more to build, plant, and decide together. For now, we’re glad to pause and take in what this community has already made possible.
